Chapter XXIII - 23
Pondering My Purpose

Have you ever stopped to ponder, think, contemplate, conjure, meditate, or visualize why you're occupying space on this minute pebble spinning through the vastness of space that we call Earth? Have you wondered why you're here? What your mission, if any, is? Why you were born, selected to occupy space, be part of other's lives, and for what reason? To ask those questions could be dangerous and life changing and could effect your present and your eternal future.

Are you here on a PCS or just TDY? Is there a reason God allowed you to be born not aborted and what purpose does God have for your life? (Certainly not to blow yourself up in some crowded marketplace.)

If you don't believe in the God of the Bible but buy into the belief or concept that your early ancestors crawled out of the slime a kazillion years ago (without answering the question, "Where did the slime come from)? then the whole question of your life's purpose is meaningless. You simply exist - so eat, drink, and do whatever else brings YOU to pleasure, and eventually die, and hopefully, cease to exist. End of story.

On the other hand if you believe what the Bible says about man and God the Creator and Jesus Christ the Redeemer then you are here for a purpose and God has a wonderful plan for your life. Like a set of orders, though, we can accept them or reject them. We can leave the perimeter of the camp on a patrol, move into the woodline and sit and bring back a fabricated report or we can actually go out and fulfill our mission.

In reading the Old Testament story of Queen Esther we see the Jews in captivity throughout the Babylonian Empire threatened with extermination by a Jew hater (things haven't changed much -- instead of a Haman we have an Arafat). Saving the Jews falls on the shoulders of this young Jewish Queen. Because of Babylonian law, only she has a chance to speak to the King, but it's at the risk of her life unless the King, himself, requests her presence. Her uncle Mordecai says to her, "If you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. AND WHO KNOWS BUT THAT YOU HAVE COME TO ROYAL POSITION FOR SUCH A TIME AT THIS?" (Esther 4:14)

As you "ponder your purpose" surely God has placed you here not simply to earn badges or ribbons or to seduce local ladies or to accumulate power or money or whatever it can buy. For all of us the purpose, should be in serving others, "anytime, anywhere" following the example of Jesus Christ.

Ponder your purpose. It's not too late and the opportunities are unlimited.
